    A lifetime of Advocacy

    Paglagivsi! Hello!
My name is Iñuraaq, Greta Schuerch. I was born in Kotzebue and raised in Kiana.

I’ve dedicated my career to the communities of District 40 through my work at the Red Dog Mine, the Alaska State Legislature, the City of Kiana, Inuit Circumpolar-Alaska and most recently with the North Slope Borough and Northwest Arctic Borough joint-partnership. I have served as a volunteer in several capacities promoting healthy rural communities through service work in an effort to empower our children to lead meaningful and wholesome lives.

As a candidate for State House, my best qualification is my Kobuk River upbringing, having lived through the very issues that I have spent my life working to improve upon. It is my goal to take both my life and work experience and apply this level of advocacy and problem solving in the Alaska State Legislature.

I respectfully ask for your vote in the Primary Election on August 28th.

  • A Strong Voice for a Changing Arctic

Onshore oil and gas development in the Arctic has fueled Alaska’s economy over the past fifty years. While the future of onshore investment by oil companies is in question – the Federal government, the State government and the oil industry have staked their future offshore in the Chuckchi and Beaufort Seas. It is our obligation as residents of the North to ensure that the operators, as well as the State and Federal Government, understand the delicate balance between our people, our land, and our oceans. While we have been patient with the permitting process, and diligent in making sure our voices are heard – we must not stop – District 40 needs a representative who listens to the people and who is equipped to negotiate a future that will protect our Iñupiaq way of life.

Solutions to Rural Alaska’s Energy Crisis

The development of an Alaska Gas pipeline must benefit Rural Alaska significantly.

    Sustainable Local Economies

We must build sustainable and independent rural communities by developing a relevant workforce, promoting independent community planning efforts and supporting local businesses.

    Secure and Healthy Communities

We must continue to advocate for improved public safety and promote health and wellness initiatives in rural communities.

    Culturally Relevant Education Systems

We must ensure that education systems in Rural Alaska incorporate local culture and language into instruction and testing.

    Adequate Healthcare

We must work to foster a partnership between the State and Federal governments to ensure that health care services are adequate and fully funded.
